Katie Homes has filed for divorce after 5 years of marriage to Tom Cruise. Jonathan Wolfe, Holmes' lawyer has confirmed the split on Friday by releasing a statement "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
The couple has a 6-year old daughter together named Suri. Cruise's spokesperson, Amanda Lundberg also released a statement that said "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
The 33-year old Holmes petitioned for a divorce anonymously in Manhattan on Thursday and asked for sole legal custody and primary residential custody of Suri. Cruise, a 3-time Oscar nominee and Holmes, a former 'Dawson's Creek' star, tied the knot in November 17, 2006 in L.A. which was followed by an extravagant nuptial service in a 15th century castle in Bracciano, Italy the next day.
Cruise, who is celebrating his 50th birthday on Tuesday, was formerly married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990. Cruise later met Nicole Kidman on the set of 'Days of Thunder' and married the Aussie actress on Christmas Eve in 1990 in Telluride, Colorado. Kidman and Cruise adopted two children Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony and then divorced in 2001.
Holmes was formerly engaged to Chris Klein from December 2003 to the spring of 2005. Her marriage to Cruise was her first. Holmes has hired a high profile lawyer for her divorce to Cruise. Cruise is still at a film set in Iceland and is still looking for legal representation.
