Like a fairy tale that one thought would never end, it looks like the day of reckoning is here. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage. And Katie wants sole custody of their daughter. TMZ says Scientology is to blame for the split, and Tom was blindsided by the news:
Katie Holmes filed for divorce primarily over Tom Cruise's fierce ties to Scientology, fearing that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church … sources connected with the couple tell TMZ.
Our sources say … Katie has never been fully committed to Scientology, even though she has had ties with the church. We're told the couple had been arguing over Suri — that she's now of the age where Scientology becomes a significant part of her life. Sources familiar with the split tell us Katie is filing for sole legal custody — as we first reported — specifically because she does not want Tom to control decisions relating to religion.
People magazine says…
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes's attorney. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
(Cruise), 49, wed Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have a daughter Suri, 6.
This was Holmes's first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and Mimi Rogers.
But look, this isn't the first time Cruise and his religion has gotten in his way of happy ever after. Cruise was famously accused of being pressured by Scientology to divorce Kidman right before their 10 year anniversary
Is Scientology behind this divorce as well?
