Whew, boy. The Enquirer claims to have discovered "shocking behind-the-scenes details," and it sure looks like they did. They had the best coverage in the second week, and the most honest about the marriage and the very significant role Scientology played in its demise.

It quotes a Hollywood pal of Katie's who said Katie told Tom she no longer wanted to be a part of the Church of Scientology and that she didn't want Suri being raised solely as a Scientologist.

Tom went nuts and read Katie the riot act for days until she apologized. Now, I know this is a gossip magazine and we know much of what we read in it is highly exaggerated or just untrue. But I would bet my bottom dollar, when it comes to the Tom and his wacko cult, this story is true.

After that incident Katie got a hold of attorney dad Martin Holmes, crying into the phone. He flew out to California to confront Tom.

After five plus years of marriage to Tom and probably countless stories of verbal and other kinds of abuse, Katie's mom and dad had probably had enough of Tom, his religion and his controlling ways and abuse. No doubt Katie was greatly encouraged by her family to end this horrible marriage.

Of Katie's life as Tom's wife:

"The devout Scientologist and his minions subjected his wife to relentless verbal abuse, emotional punishment, humiliation and intimidation, sources say, until Katie decided to break free of the controversial religion," quotes a source.

Everyone around her, including the housekeeper, gardener and bodyguards were all Scientologists.

Andrew Morton, author of the best-selling book, "Tom Cruise – an Unauthorized Biography," told the Enquirer, "For Katie, marriage was like living in an open prison."

The mag also quotes a psychotherapist, who did not treat Katie, "Tom Cruise's harsh, controlling and demeaning manner amounts to verbal abuse because he didn't allow Katie to shine her own light. Every time she tried to be her own person, he put her down."

Wow. Fortunately for Katie, she won full custody of Suri, with liberal visitation rights for Tom. Let's hope part of the deal was to keep Suri away from Scientology.

Inside – What really Happened

This mag tells a very different story. The role Scientology had in the break-up is vastly underplayed, focusing instead on how Katie wanted to be her own woman. It's almost like they are protecting Tom and not blaming his religion for the break-up. I had to wonder if the story was written by a Scientologist, it favored Tom that much.

People quotes a source who says, "It's clear that Tom can be very persuasive and is very powerful. But once she decided to go, she was done, says an insider, who joins multiple sources in refuting reports that Holmes feared for her safety or that Scientology was the overriding factor in the split." Emphasis added.

Really, multiple sources? Really People? Who are these multiple sources? Scientologists? Katie is married to a very wealthy and successful actor, lives a dream life in a fabulous mansion and has a private plane at her disposal, but decides…I think I want to be my own woman. I think I'll divorce Tom. Puhlease!

As for little Suri and her future as a Scientologist, "Holmes's lawyer denied a report that the divorce settlement precluded her (Suri) from being further exposed to Scientology. If she continues in the faith, older kids start undergoing "confessional auditing," or "sec checks," a key part of Scientology in which followers answer questions while hooked up to "e-meters" that the church claims measure mental states."

Doesn't every parent want their child hooked up to a sci-fi gadget? E-meters can be purchased on E-bay and elsewhere. I think I'll just go out and buy one and see if it can tell my fortune and solve my problems. Good Lord.

Inside Story -- Nothing is Settled

"Behind the scenes – just the way Tom likes to play it – he is still fuming over Katie's betrayal and gearing up for the real fight, a no-holds-barred battle against Katie for the soul of their daughter. Keeping Katie silent, indoctrinating Suri into Scientology and even brain-washing his own daughter are all part of his long game, say insiders."

I can definitely believe that. Tom already succeeded in turning his other two kids against Nicole Kidman, his second wife and mother to adopted children Connor and Isabella. When Tom divorced her, they agreed to joint custody. Shortly thereafter, the kids decided to live with Tom, and according to many reports the kids are not close to Nicole, and don't even call her mom; the actress was once quoted as saying they call her Nicole. Sounds like brainwashing to me.

So, if we can judge by Tom's past actions, I think we can expect a repeat. Let's face it: He wants his daughter to be a Scientologist. Katie wants to raise her as a Catholic.

In fact, Katie recently enrolled Suri in a very posh Catholic school. This is good news for Suri and Katie, and probably angers Tom even further.

Quotes the mag, "With his $250 million fortune intact and ample visitation rights, Tom can now dig in for a protracted fight for influence over his daughter – much the same way he won over … Connor and Isabella."

Tom's former auditor and former Scientologist Marty Rathbun says, "Indoctrination will absolutely be slanted in a way to get them to favor him and not her. Part of the indoctrination was making them dislike their mother, and I think that's rotten.

"If Tom has any saying in the rearing of Suri, he'll likely make her do a mild form of mind control to create a wedge between her and Katie, like he did with Bella and Connor [against Nicole.], agrees Tiziano Lugli, another former church member and old friend of the Cruise clan.

I like how Star got direct quotes from former Scientologists who are named, and who know the truth – and the dangers – of the church. They weren't afraid to tell it like it is concerning Tom and his obsession with Scientology. Bottom line – pray for Katie and Suri.
