After 5 years of marriage, the power couple is calling it quits shocking the showbiz world. Holmes publicist has said in a statement: "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." Holmes cited "irreconciliable differences" as grounds for the divorce and she is asking for sole legal and primary residential custody of Suri.
Cruise's publicist said: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
Cruise and Holmes started dating in 2005 and were very public about their relationship. They have been feeding the tabloids ever since. At the beginning of their romance they acted like two thunderstruck teenagers with Katie commenting on how she had a childhood crush on Cruise. And Tom inturn took to jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey's couch expressing his love for her. They got engaged in Paris and Cruise couldn't contain his excitement. He told People, "Yes, I proposed to her…It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all. Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."
Holmes told W Magazine: "I've found the man of my dreams. From the moment I met him…I was blown away."
The couple were married in a Scientology ceremony in 2006 in France and have a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
So, what happened to this fairytale romance? It has been rumored that all was not well in their fairytale world and that Katie Holmes has been living under lock and key for the last five years under Tom's rule. The Enquirer alleged that "Katie has been living such a tortured life with Tom Cruise.
This was the third marriage for 49-year-old "Rock of Ages Star" who was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers and the first marriage for Katie 33.
And it looks like Tom is going to be "cruising" on his own for a while.
