Their marriage has been the talk of Tinseltown for five years now but it looks like Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes' love affair is over after it was revealed that Katie has filed for divorce.
Well-known celebrity divorce lawyer Jonathon Wolfe confirmed that the couple were to divorce but refused to be drawn into further speculation, stating: "This is a personal and private matter."
Tom and Katie have a six year old daughter, Suri, and Tom also has two adopted children from his first marriage to Nicole Kidman. It is thought that Katie Holmes is looking to gain sole custody of Suri but Tom has reportedly told friends that there is absolutely no way that he is going to let go of his daughter without a fight and is looking to fight his divorce battle in the Californian courts rather than in New York, as Californian law looks more favourably on joint Custody.
Katie, who married Tom when she was 27 back in 2006, is said to have grown tired of her husband's jet set lifestyle and the amount of time he spends away from home. It has also been suggested that she no longer wants her daughter to be brought up in the church of Scientology and this is why she has finally decided that divorce is the only option for her marriage.
This comes after a long romance which started with Tom's very public declaration of his love for Katie on the Oprah show followed by many years of public affection, which it seems has sadly come to an end.
