Chan-Wook Park has made some excellent cult films. I haven’t seen Thirst , but Oldboy and his Vengeance trilogy were fantastic. For his first American film he snagged Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, and Matthew Goode to give us a film that’s just as brilliantly disturbing as his previous work.
Stoker is a twisted tale of a young girl and her relationship with her crazy mother and her mysterious and charming uncle who comes to stay with them after her father dies. I know I made fun of his weight before, but the screenplay was written by Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller which is kind of cool, but still hard to swallow. Unlike an entire plate of cheese fries are for Wentworth Miller. Face!!
I don’t know what to make of this movie. It just looks creepy and dark and I have no idea why Wasikowska has a sniper rifle or if there’s a sexier last name than Wasikowska, but I must find out. It has a March 1, 2013 release date.
